Oral Prophylaxis and Scaling in Panchsheel Park

What are Oral prophylaxis and Scaling?

Scaling and root planing is the process of removing or eliminating agents such as dental plaque, its products and tartar – which cause periodontal disease. Prophylaxis is basically a dental term for regular teeth cleaning. Healthy teeth are maintained with two basic factors which are oral hygiene and brushing.

At the interval of 6 months, one appointment with the dentist should be done provided the severity of the condition of the teeth. Dentists then make sure to remove the plaque and calculus from the oral cavity, through scaling and cleaning, which if not removed may cause damage and infection in the mouth in future. If plaque is left untreated then it could turn into a more complex form which is tartar.

Tartar is hard, and rough and attracts even more plaque to its surface, causing further damage. Your dentist then uses an advanced technique to remove the plaque from the periodontal pocket, that procedure is termed curettage.

Once this whole procedure of scaling is done the dentist uses paste to properly clean up the superficial surface of teeth and to remove the leftover plaque on the tooth surface this process is called oral prophylaxis.

Difference between oral prophylaxis and scaling.

Root scaling refers to the removal of calculus or plaque from the periodontal areas of the teeth to either resolve the bacterial infection or prevent it from occurring. It is the deep cleaning of roots with the help of advanced equipment to prevent teeth from further decay.

Oral prophylaxis is a very effective way to decrease the risk of tooth decay and remove plaque from the teeth. It doesn’t involve advanced equipment for plaque removal. Oral prophylaxis is done after the root scaling is performed on the teeth.

When are oral prophylaxis and scaling treatment Necessary?
